Exhibition Statement
Reconstructed Nature is the culmination of years of collaboration and interplay between visual artists Luke Norman and Nik Adam. The exhibition brings together a vibrant collection of new works - photographs, contact sheets, video and 8mm film - spliced together in a colourful celebration of the natural environment.
Living in Copenhagen and London respectively, the duo have developed a unique workflow. Inspired by the nature of both Denmark and England, the pair explore their environments individually. They document, catalogue and record, sharing their field work with one another, before revisioning and reinterpreting each other’s image-making. Despite the challenges of distance, the pair work in synergy, employing and adapting traditional analogue processes. Reconstructed Nature forms a dialogue between two artists bound by their personal connection to nature.
Luke & Nik encourage us to contemplate our own relationship to the environment; how we may utilise, play and express ourselves during the time spent in the spaces that nature provides. Fostering connections to nature is about more than simply spending time outdoors, it's about what we do with that time, and how we feel; nature as remedy rather than commodity.
Reconstructed Nature encourages us to be creative within our local habitat, while better striving to keep in sync with nature’s rhythms.
